Accessing Choices in Education
SCC’s Accessing Choices in Education Project, under the Department of Education’s Indian Education Demo Grant for Indian Children and Youth Program, will demonstrate the effectiveness of services designed to improve the educational opportunities and achievement of Indian elementary and secondary students.
Goal
The goal of the program is to strengthen the capacity of the Chippewa Cree Tribe, Stone Child College, Rocky Boy School, and Box Elder School to effectively and collaboratively improve the education opportunities and achievement of Indian students on Rocky Boy’s Reservation.
The absolute priority is to enable parents and students to choose educational services that meet their needs while decreasing risky behaviors and increasing a connection to the Chippewa Cree Language and Culture.
Action Plan
The ACE Project will provide a comprehensive plan to provide a variety of education services in the areas of Cree language, culture, health, and wellness, history courses, CAMP mentoring, College Visits, Hands-on learning activities, Neh-i-yahw, Strengthening the Families Program, Positive Parenting Curriculum, Early Assessment–Meyers Brigss, and Dual Enrollment/credit courses.
The project will create a number of education options from which participating students can choose that are culturally relevant.
